Presentation:

The Eagle, the Serpent, and the Rising Sun:   A Prehispanic Foundational Myth Inscribed in Stone in Santo Tomás Jalieza, Oaxaca."

Presenter: 

Robert Markens is Doctor in Anthropology from Brandeis University and is currently Associate Professor in the Institute of Aesthetic Investigations (Art History) of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). In addition to the UNAM, he has given classes in the following universities among other: Universidad Autónoma de Benito Juárez en Oaxaca, la Universidad Regional del Sureste in Oaxaca, The University of Chicago, New York University and the Universidad de Costa Rica.

His most recent book coauthored with Cira Martínez López and Marcus Winter is “La Piedra de La Letra y el Patrimonio Arqueológico de Santo Tomás Jalieza, Oaxaca”, published in 2020 by the National Institute of Anthropology and History of Mexico.
