About the event

SYNOPSIS:

What do you know about the “Problems” of 2006? Are you aware that there occurred a pivotal event in the history of Oaxaca that reverberates to this very day. Early one morning in June of 2006 the teachers (Section 22) were asleep in the the Zocalo holding their annual 2-week plantón (strike/tent city). Section 22 had held this demonstration every year for decades. However, this year was to be different. That early morning in 2006, the then-Governor sent a helicopter and dropped tear gas on the encampment. Thus began a 6-month rebellion against the government by Section 22 and many other anti-government groups. The government itself disappeared. Learn about this seminal event from one who was part of the rebellion from the beginning.

PRESENTER BIO:

The Presenter will be Yescka, a graphic guerrilla artist. He is not a historian but a participant in the rebellion utilizing his talent as a guerrilla artist. He is still a guerrilla artist with a taller, Yescka Guerrilla Art.
