About the event
There is a network of organizations and individuals working for animals in need in Oaxaca. From feral cat colonies of over 80 cats, to taking in a donkey who was attacked by a pack of street dogs, there are people who work tirelessly to help animals in need in the valley and surrounding areas of Oaxaca. Some of us branch out geographically and others take in a possum. Our animal populations in Oaxaca are always in need, from free sterilization campaigns in remote villages to flight parents for dogs, learn about the issues and the people working on the solutions for our furry friends.
Presenter: Tanya LaPierre has been working with animals for 25 years as her service to her community, and in Oaxaca, her adopted home, she worked for 3 years in a refuge environment in Zaachila, and for 4 years focusing efforts on sterilization of both family pets and colonies of stray cats and dogs. She's been bitten by cats twice, by a dog once, and worked for 25 years in International Human Resources, which she continues to work with as a consultant for mining organizations. She volunteers and works for the Oaxaca Lending Library's hiking program, sits on the Board for COLLIN, A.C. the organization that supports migrants and people on the move in Oaxaca. She co-runs a yoga and wellness studio, manages houses and apartments for rent and has a tour business, Go Well Tours. She was born in Montreal, Canada.
