Guelaguetza in San Antonino Castillo Velasco

Traditional Guelaguetza performances in the lovely town of San Antonino Castillo Velasco

Time & Location

About the event

After attending the talk on Guelaguetza: History &  Tradition at the OLL on July 24, join us to take in the full experience  in a more intimate (and affordable) setting in San Antonino Castillo  Velasco. The program will have the full complement of traditional dances  in a festival atmosphere. Each costume, or traje, and dance usually has a local indigenous historical and cultural meaning. While  the celebration has attracted an increasing number of tourists, it is  primarily one of deep cultural importance for the indigenous peoples of  the state and is important for the survival of these cultures. The state  of Oaxaca has one of the largest numbers of differing indigenous  populations in all of Mexico, and they are beautifully represented in  the Guelaguetzas.
